How to Document a Lost-Asset Claim

Before contacting a service provider, bank, platform, insurer, or authority, organize the basic facts of the asset and how it was lost.

Describe the asset

Record the asset type, identifying details, approximate value and valuation date, and the last time it was known to be under your control.

Collect proof of ownership or control

Gather receipts, account statements, registration records, purchase records, wallet records, or other documents relevant to the asset. Redact unrelated sensitive data when appropriate.

Explain the event

Write a factual timeline including dates, locations or platforms, people or accounts involved, and steps already taken. Mark any uncertainty clearly.

Preserve communications

Keep original emails, messages, support tickets, case numbers, URLs, and payment confirmations. Do not alter original evidence.

Choose the appropriate reporting route

Depending on the asset and circumstances, contact the relevant bank, platform, insurer, law-enforcement agency, regulator, or qualified legal professional.

Beware of recovery guarantees

A provider can help organize evidence or identify leads, but cannot promise that an asset will be found or returned. Never disclose passwords or private keys.
